Battery Park City Cove Video
This video views multiple pilings in the Battery Park south cove area. On the pilings there is an array of algae and sponge species. Many sea squirts (Molgula manhattensis) can also be seen clinging to the piling as well as other species inhabiting it. The camera pans down to the floor of the river where many blue mussel shells (Mytilus edulis) can be seen covering the bottom. A Cunner (Tautogolabrus adspersus) swims around the bottom of the piling. This fish can be identified by the vertical stripes on its body and one black horizontal stripe across the eye. The camera moves to another piling. A blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) scuttles downwards but then leaps off when it sees the cameraman, opening its claw and raising it towards the camera as a warning as it swims deeper in the water.
